Web design is a process that conceptualizes, plans, models, and executes electronic media content in the form of Mark up language through the Internet. Such language is made interpretable and suitable to web browsers and then displays it as Graphical user interface (GUI).
The main purpose of web design is to create a web site. A web site is a collection of electronic files that is located on web browsers. They contain interactive features, information, images and many more. Internet users can simply browse through the server and search for the web sites they find interesting or need something from.
There are two types of web site pages, static and dynamic. Static pages do not change its layout and content without the master programmer updating it. On the other hand, dynamic pages can be changed depending on the end user. These pages are more interactive and use complex applications in order for the page to adapt to its changing environment.
Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (WWW) and published his first web site in 1991. He used an early version of mark-up language called HTML for basic structure and used hypertext to link the pages and make it a web site. Through out the years, web design has progressed. Mark-up languages have become more complex and flexible. This means we can now put more media, structure and designs in our web sites.
A web site contains a collection of information about a certain topic. Designing such a web site is described as arranging and creating web pages that will be combined to form a web site. There are many aspects to consider in web design.
For non-commercial web sites, goals can be of exposure, response or social interaction. For commercial web sites, content, substance, usability, appearance and visibility is very much considered.
Since the public will be able to access this, information shown must be relevant, a web site must be user-friendly and easy to navigate, appearance should show a single style to show consistency, and it must be visible through major search engines and media advertisements.
Web sites mostly contain images and text. The first page of a web site is the Homepage or index. This page welcomes the visitor in the web site and shows a little of what the web site offers. Then the programmers design the other pages needed.
When all the pages have been linked together, it can then be uploaded and published so that the public can now access it. The web master may use various techniques to invite more visitors in his site like submitting the site to Google or Yahoo, getting a banner, linking with other web sites and many more. Web sites can be developed further through programs like Adobe Flash or Dreamweaver.
